Sea Grapes Farm
Have you ever heard of sea grapes, or Umi Buudo in Japanese ? Considered as the caviar of Japan, Kume Island is Japan top producer of sea grapes thanks to the water used in its production, pumped 600 meters below sea level from the nearby scientific Deep Sea Water Institute.
This water specificity allows the production of bigger and juicer sea grapes than any other farms in the archipelago.
Tsumugi Center
Tsumugi is considered a Japanese Intangible Cultural Heritage and at the origin of kimonos. Developed in Kume Island, you might see many islanders wearing Tsumugi clothes although it is a very expensive fabric due to its hand-made long creation process.
Learn more about Tsumugi in the small exhibition area before trying your hand at making your own Tsumugi coasters. Visitors can also experience traditional sarong dyeing with local natural ingredients from Kume Island.
Cooking Class
