Southern people

Kume Islanders are known to be friendly yet shy people. They will always be delighted to exchange with you if you greet them. When visiting Kume Island, you will discover that islanders are warm people who love to share about their unique culture.

Okinawan dialect

Okinawan dialect was once spread in all the Okinawa archipelago. Similar to other regions around the world, the younger generation is less and less taught their ancestors dialect and it is slowly disappearing. Islanders still commonly use some specific words as “Haisai” for hello, “Menso~re” for welcome and other expressions specific to Okinawa.
